Virus trying to remove security software appeared online
Friday, 17 September 2010 05:55

A new global worm appeared online on Tuesday. It spread in the Internet emailing the address books of those who were infected. Masquerading as PDF it appears in the inbox with URL you have to click with the sign “Here you have” , but there is no any PDF file as you click on it. Users found executable file there that had .scr extention, which installed itself right into Windows directory.

After that it e-mails your  address book, sending messages under your name but can spread in other ways too through removable media, for instance. Its main goal is deletion of security software and virus protection.

In what way can you be protected from it? The best protection is certainly not click on every URL you receive. If you get some suspicious links via e-mail, think twice before doing so. In case you know the sender this does not mean that everything you get from his/her email is safe therefore be more careful with it and contact the sender if necessary to confirm the information. If you have not updated virus definitions for a long time, probably time has come to make it. This worm, in particular, made some companies update definitions files for handling this worm. Such companies as McAfee, Norton and some other companies specializing on security software performed that.

First off, don’t click suspicious links in email, even if you know the sender. Second, have you updated your virus definitions lately? McAfee, Norton, and other security software companies have updated their definitions file to handle the “Here you have” worm.

Microsoft developed Security Essentials for users of Window, providing protection against malware and viruses. If it is too late already and you are infected then disconnect your computer from the Internet and install antivirus program from the removable drive. Use the latest version of antivirus and disinfect your computer.
