Citrix Comes Up with Upgrades for XenServer Virtualization |
Friday, 05 November 2010 07:36 |
Citrix System has released an updated version of Citrix XenServer with some additions to the group's virtualization platform. These newly added features include networking, management and storage elements, which are expected to facilitate the deployment and management of virtualization in a user friendly and cost-effective way. The new version of Citrix XenServer opens up new horizons for even minor companies in the sphere of virtualization. Most of the work performed by virtualized desktops involves data that does not require NAS or SAN storage. The company has developed IntelliCache technology capable to optimize the process of storage by sending this data to solid-state or server drives. This has proven cost-efficient and performance-friendly. This technology is incorporated into the free version of the tool; so it will be into the new pack. The Distributed Virtual Switching (DVS) technology allows for building a unified network embracing internal and external resources for the simple reason that it uses standard industry protocols. In other words, IT administrators have received an opportunity to manipulate network traffic on a global scale. This addition does not entail any additional charges; neither do virtual switching capabilities or advanced control systems. The upgraded edition features VM protection and recovery elements permitting IT administrators to archive images and select preferred storage location with zero risk of data loss. The XenServer Management Console has also been updated and made accessible from any browser. By aid of this console, administrators can enable users who have applications in possession to access their VMs. Mark Bowker of Enterprise Strategy Group said the new features were contributing to lower costs, handier operation and easier deployment. IntelliCache technology will optimize VDI storage, and these new optimizations will be found in the updated pack. The pack will include architecture for XenDesktop 5. |
