New Mexico University sues Intel for patent right infringement in relation to production of chip. The technology of patent in question is essential for manufacturing of small chips with features that are so tiny that have a size of several united atoms. All producers of chips look for the way to make the parts as small as possible to fit into little devices. STC is a patent arm of the New Mexico University and it concluded several deals already for the use of patents. Among the companies which applied for patents are Toshiba, TCMC, Samsung Electronics. The complaint against Intel was filed to protect the inventors’ interests. Intel refused to comment upon the news. According to the information received from STC, they were not inclined to apply to court, but when they got in touch with Intel concerning this question, the corporation did not want to change anything. The similar situation took place before with TSMC and investigation was launched to look closer at the matter. The problem was solved without going to the court. The technology of double patterning lithography is a matter of arguments at the present moment as it lets shrink transistors greatly to make the devices smaller, and with ability to work quicker and effectively. The patent was called by some invalid, so time will tell how the disagreement between the companies will be solved. |
