Yandex won the battle over Google

Yandex is the leadYandex won the battle over Googleing search engine in the Russian segment of Internet. It asserts that its revenue in 2010 reached record amount. But this is not a final point and the company continues to develop.

Next year Yandex is probably going to have initial public offering. Revenue grew 43 % in 2010, and reached the sum $420 million (12.5 billion rubles).  

The statistics don't take in fees for traffic acquisition, the payments to partners for the advertisement.

Arkady Volozh is the CEO of the company Yandex. He asserts that the quality of the product the company produces is improving all the time and this is the reason for the success. This is why the company succeeded in increase of market share.

He also thinks that the substantial growth can be explained by restoration of the economy after crisis. The little companies and companies of average size started their active work spending much money on advertising.

Contextual advertising in addition to the ads in Yandex network makes 88 % of revenue. Last year it made only 45% of it. The number of advertisers In Yandex has also increased 40% and now there are 180,000 of them.

According to estimations Yandex has 64.1% of Russian search engines under control. But Yandex is rising not only in Russia, the market share of the company has grown as well in Russian speaking countries, in spite of the fact that it does not take the leading position there. For instance, in Ukraine Yandex has a 27% of the search market in comparison with 20.8 % it had before, and 24.4 % of market share belongs to Yandex in Kazakhstan.

 

Yandex has succeeded in domination on the local market, and won the battle with Google. Actually, Russia belongs to the small number of countries in which Google is not the main search engine. The same can be said about Japan, China and South Korea.
