New version of Microsoft Lync was launched this week, the communication platform, which unifies numerous tools integrated into it.

Actually all communication technologies that exist nowadays and which make it easier to collaborate, were introduced into the platform.

Lync included Lync 2010 client, Microsoft Lync Server 2010, Lync Web App client, Lync Online, a hosted unified communication service.

Its elements match up with the elements of OCS. Therefore Lync as a family name substitutes Office Communications. Lync Server 2010 changes OCS Server 2007. On the customer side, Lync 2010 changes Office Communicator 2007 R2. The Web client is identified at present as Lync WebApp instead of the earlier Office Communicator WebAccess. Microsoft communications service is identified at the moment as Lync Online, coming to the place of Office Communications Online.

Lync establishes a fresh management server for collaboration platform and UC of Microsoft. The name of the server is Central Management Server.

Lync provides new administrative tools, new productivity tools for experts having certain qualifications in SharePoint, enhanced tools to manage contacts with history of communications.

With the ability to switch the WAN, it becomes reliable support for collaboration.

The term Lync was derived after 2 words were blended: link and sync, which were selected to stress the capability of connection people.
