Zuckerberg’s account in G+ |
Saturday, 30 July 2011 16:15 |
Do you have an idea about who the most popular person in the Google Plus is? Is it Britney Spears or the Lady Gaga? You will be surprised to find that is not either of them, nor is it, the cofounders of Google, Larry and Sergey! It is none other than Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook. He has surprisingly made an account on the Google plus and has a great line of 29543 followers on the Google’s newly introduced application! Now isn’t that strange?? He is the most popular member, seconded by the Google cofounder Larry Page, with 19878 followers and Sergey Brin, who came the fourth in the list with 15646 followers!
Though there were doubts regarding the identity of Zuckerberg, a tech blogger Robert Scoble confirmed the doubts via Twitter. Zuckerberg himself puts the question in Twitter about why so many people are surprised on him having an account with Google Plus. Zuckerberg is definitely a man of popularity and had been chosen the Person of the Year in 2010 by the Times Magazine.Yet it is somewhat strange that he tops with the maximum number of followers in his competitor’s site! Google plus is just like the Facebook, and you may wonder if someone would bother to use both together. The LinkedIn is purely for business related matters and the Facebook is for keeping in touch with the family and friends, but the use of Google plus among these sites is indeed a question that goes unanswered. Google is actually focusing on the dissimilarities rather than the similarities between the two. The spokesperson Katie Watson told the TechNewsWorld that Google Plus is an effort to make a better possibility in online sharing. She reminds that the Google is not trying to replace the existing ones, but trying to provide a new way to connect with people you love! Here, the fact remains that the Facebook has more than half a billion users and no one would really bother to use the new Google Plusmuch. Amidst all this hue and cry, Jim McGregor, the chief technology strategist at Google claims that he knows people who stopped using Facebook due to security reasons. He says that such people would definitely turn to the newer option, if they were offered one. He guarantees that the Google Plus would meet their needs well. Moreover, he thinks that there is sufficient room for other social networking sites to come up and flourish among the ones that already exist. It is the best for people who don’t like Facebook and he considers that the market is still welcoming the Google Plus. This is because, privacy issues are always a prime concern and people do not neglect it as such. He claims that many among us have relatives and friends who have given up on Facebook because of security issues. According to Steven Savage, the technology project manager and Geek 2.0 blogger, Facebook is too noisy to deal with and has too many features, which are good only if you want to use a highly central social media for your public as well as private uses. Whereas, the Google Plus will take you only to what you want.He says that Google Plus offers a more streamlined form of Facebook. Moreover he claims that people want competition, not monopoly of a site. People may end up using both the sites, but the frequency of use will definitely depend on the quality of the site, and this is what Savage thinks, would help the Google Plus grow. Carl Howe, the director of anywhere consumer research at the Yankee Group, says that the idea of using Google Plus instead of Facebook is just like using the Android iPhone, if you don’t like to use the Apple! He says that the market is big and the number of Facebook subscriptions in the United States is coming down day by day, owing to the security issues of Facebook. This saturation of Facebook in the market would definitely mean the increase in the use of Google Plus. But still the fact remains that the popularity of the Facebook is going to highly affect the growth of the Google Plus. Savage finds that the Google Plus wouldn’t stop people from using the Facebook, but would definitely offer good competition for the Facebook |
